Home Energy Advice Team

Interested in reducing your energy bills? Home Energy Advice Team can show you how.

There are many steps you can take to reduce your household energy costs. People often don't take action because they are unsure what the best steps are.

The ACT Government's home energy audit and rebate program can show you how, and can provide financial assistance to invest in energy savings in your home.

Money invested in energy efficiency can reduce ongoing energy bills, increase the comfort of your home in summer and in winter, help the environment and can add to the value of your house. That's great value!

Nearly a third of Canberra's greenhouse gas emissions come from natural gas and electricity used in homes. The ACT Government is committed to reducing those emissions. You can help, while doing yourself a financial favour by taking part in HEAT.

For just $30 a professional energy auditor from HEAT will visit your home, check the features of your house that affect your energy use and identify where savings can be made. You will receive a written report which will set out a plan to capture the energy savings identified.

Homeowners who spend at least $2,000 on energy efficiency improvements identified during the audit will be eligible to receive a $500 rebate from the ACT Government. Please see the full Terms and Conditions for a list of possible items that could qualify you for the ACT Government rebate.

Only houses and semi-detached houses built before 1996 are eligible for an audit. In order to have an audit conducted, applicants must agree that the ACT Government can use their household energy bills for 12 months (or its equivalent) before and 2 years after the audit, so that energy use can be measured and evaluated. Information on how to apply for a rebate will be provided with the audit report.
